Issue 689: libtool error in MPI directory

Reported by dickerson, Mar 22, 2012

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1../configure --prefix=/opt/arpack-ng_3.1.0
(note i am not using --enable-mpi)

Expected result:

Actual result:
make[3]: Entering directory
/bin/sh ../../../libtool --tag=F77 --mode=compile -g -O2 -c -o
pivout.lo pivout.f
libtool: compile: unrecognized option `-g'

I am trying to compile 3.1.0 on updated CentOS 6.2. It seems that
the compiler is being left out of the line before -g. I can fix that
but there are then more errors.

I am not asking for mpi so i'm not sure why it is even trying to
make this.

Thanks -

I had the same issue. In PARPACK/UTIL/MPI/Makefile and
PARPACK/SRC/MPI/Makefile, there is the line

    MPIF77 =

I changed it to

    MPIF77 = mpif77

And got arpack to compile.

This is of course a hacky solution, the real solution would be to
fix the configure script.

Thanks - yes, in my case i set these to gfortran and it all
compiled. I appreciate your guidance -

Indeed, if you dont use mpif77 compiler option, you will got a -O0
in a nooption for FFLAGS, simple things that can annoy you ...
